Nihalchand Meghwal, the lone cabinet
minister from Rajasthan, was served a notice along with 17 others by the Jaipur
district court in relation to a 4-year-old rape case.
As per the reports, in 2011, a woman had filed
an FIR against her husband and his friends of sexually exploiting her.
In her police grievance, she had
alleged that her husband drugged her after which she was raped by his friends
including Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Nihalchand.
The closer report was filed in 2012
as charges were not proved, but afterward the woman appealed in the district
court. On Thursday, the court served notices to minister Nihalchand and 17
others in the case and have asked them to reply by August 20, 2014. 43-year-old
Nihalchand is a four-time MP from the Ganganagar seat of Rajasthan.
He is the son of Begaram Chauhan, an
MLA from Raisinghnagar assembly constituency. During Lok Sabha elections 2014,
Nihalchand had beaten Congress candidate Bhanwarlal Meghwal.
Now, it will be interesting to see
what action Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to take against Nihalchand,
who began his political career in 1995, if he is proven culpable in the case.
