The issue of General Singh's tweets was raised in Parliament today, with MPs of several parties deriding them as unfortunate. Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley intervened to verify, "As far as government is concerned, appointment (of Lt Gen Suhag as Army Chief) is final and the government stands by it."
General VK Singh as an army chief had initiated disciplinary
action against Lt Gen Suhag for supposedly failing to finalised the responsibility for a failed intelligence
operation that supposedly took place in the North-East during his tenure in
December 2011.
An internal army commission formed for enquiry then cleared Lt Gen Suhag of the charges and he was promoted to Eastern Commander, placing him in line for a future task as army chief.
In a chain of tweets yesterday, General Singh made a direct attack on Lt Gen Suhag, accusing him of allowing his division to pamper in "dacoity."

"Would you have ever imagined General Kariappa or Thimmaya doing
this?" Captain Amarinder Singh said today, referring to two of India's
most-respected army commanders.
"You don't have to tweet about this," he said,
"It demoralises the soldiers at our borders or those who are fighting
insurgents."
