The Pune police have arrested 17 people alleged
to be linked with a right wing faction, Hindu Rashtra Sena, for supposedly thrashing
a 24-year-old IT professional to death in Pune on Monday in a alleged hate crime(http://idharudhar24x7.blogspot.in/2014/06/killed-by-right-wing-workers-as-he-had.html.Some of those arrested have been charged with murder.
Hindu
Rashtra Sena leader Dhananjay Desai has been under arrest in another case, but
his responsibility in the youth's murder is being looked into. The Joint Commissioner of Police said that an SMS was spread
among the accused, which proclaimed that the first wicket has fallen.
The
police are on the watch out for the remaining accused who have been recognized.
This
episode comes just days after certain provocative posts were uploaded on Facebook.
The posts were removed but not before tension was reported from several areas
of state.
The
software expert Shaikh Mohasin Sadiq, who hailed from Solapur and was a
resident of Hadapsar, was beaten to death on Monday triggered tensions in the region.
The
cause for the assault was apparently posting of 89 insulting photos of warrior
king Shivaji and late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Facebook, which led to
a protest bandh on Sunday.
Sadiq
worked in the IT section of a textile firm in the town. He was beaten badly with
sticks at Bankar Colony by the accused and succumbed to his injuries through
treatment at a close to hospital, police said. Two other guys, also had been
attacked and hurt in stone pelting at the similar place on the same night.
Police
said the case has been given to Crime Branch and they have urged to citizens
not to believe or circulate rumors as the situation is calm. Security has been
beefed up in the region.
The
faction of men had previously attacked 2 youth at the similar place. The police
had arrested at least 180 people for involving in stone throwing in the Pune region
last week.
