The
3-match one-day series between India and Bangladesh will be telecasted live by
the Star Network. Former India opener and cricket expert, Aakash Chopra,
tweeted that Star will be showing the 3-match ODI series for the Indian viewers.
There were doubts that
Indian spectators wouldn't be able to watch the series live as Bangladesh's Gazi TV, which has the rights
for cricket in Bangladesh, had approached Star Sports and Sony Six.
Star Sports supposedly made an offer of less than a million
dollars (Rs 5 crore) for the three ODIs, which was deemed very less by the
Bangladesh broadcaster. Sony Six, on the other hand, didn't show interest due
to a hectic FIFA World Cup schedule.
"Star has offered a less than million dollars for three
matches. That is too less in comparison to the cost of the rights,"
Salahuddin Chowdhury, CFO and head of operations of Gazi Group, told Mirror. "Because of the
BCCI's problems with Neo and Ten, we can't sell the rights to them. Unless,
something dramatic happens over the next two days, I cannot assure you that the
matches will be telecast in India."
"There would be a lot of overlapping time between the World
Cup matches and ODIs," Prasanna Krishnan, the chief executive of Sony Six,
told the Mirror.
"We've a planned a few pre-match shows for the World Cup and we could not
have spared our channel for cricket."
Though,
it appears that Star and Gazi group have arrived at a deal that will let the
Indian audience to watch all the action live. In his tweet, Aakash Chopra has
also said that commentary will be accessible,
both in English and in Hindi as well.
India v Bangladesh ODI series will be on Star network. Commentary in both English and Hindi too. #confirmed
The
three ODIs will be played on the 15th, 17th and 19th of June in Dhaka. India
has chosen a second-string side having rested seven of its main players
including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.
